Building Blocks for Powerful Coaching
Purpose: To introduce the foundational concepts of coaching to be used in the context of ministry.

By completing this class you will be able to:

  • Define and distinguish coaching skills and process for use in ministry
  • Apply basic coaching concepts in coaching others with an attitude of serving
  • Address situations from a variety of perspectives for the benefit of the person being coached (PBC)

Establishing A Dynamic Coaching Relationship
Purpose: To understand and be able to develop strong coaching relationships within the context
of ministry.

By completing this class you will be able to:

  • Speak clearly about coaching and its benefits
  • Understand both parts that make a strong coaching relationship – being a coach and doing coaching
  • Orient around strengths for yourself and others
  • Know the components that are needed to establish strong coaching relationships
  • Draft effective coaching agreements
  • Anticipate challenges that coaches face and know how to avoid them

Change, Transition and Transformation
Purpose: To be effective in coaching others through change, transition and transformation.

By completing this class, you will be able to:

  • Understand the dynamics of change, transition and transformation
  • Use coaching skills and the coaching process to help people navigate through changes, transition and transformation
  • Increase effectiveness as a catalyst for transformation

Coaching as a Learning Catalyst
Purpose: To understand the role of coach as a learning partner and be able to facilitate learning
and results within the context of ministry.

By completing this class, you will be able to:

  • Understand the connection between how the brain works and why coaching works
  • Apply coaching skills in different ways to facilitate learning based on cognitive preferences and learning styles of the PBC for greater effectiveness
  • Quickly assess the Personal Coaching Style of the PBC and communicate more effectively as a result

The Language of Coaching
Purpose: To understand the role of precise language in effective coaching conversations within the context of ministry.

By completing this class, you will be able to:

Notice that word choice has a big impact on effectiveness of coaching
Define the following language elements used in coaching:
  • Distinctions • Sharing Self
  • Yellow flag words • Story – telling
  • Synthesis • Metaphor
  • Formulas  
Understand the role of each of these language elements in coaching and recognize examples from scripture
Expand on criteria developed for successful usage of these language elements
Begin a list of significant distinctions that could be common in their coaching sessions
Identify jargon they are already using and work to eliminate it

Personal Coaching
Purpose: To understand some basic components that will move people forward in their personal lives.

By completing this class, you will be able to:

  • Support people in developing personal goals
  • Understand the value in eliminating tolerations
  • Assist people in identifying the needs that drive people in negative ways
  • Encourage people to identify and live from their values
  • Help people set standards and boundaries that are life-giving

Coaching Teams

By completing this class, you will be able to:

  • Review the highlights of coaching individuals to provide a strong foundation for coaching teams
  • Establish definitions and distinctions for groups and teams
  • Focus on the new skills and models needed for coaching teams effectively
  • Practice and build confidence in coaching teams while in class
  • Become more aware of applications for coaching teams

The Coach Approach to Evangelism and Discipleship
Purpose: To Increase effectiveness in coaching for evangelism and discipleship.

By completing this class, you will be able to:

  • Understand and appreciate coaching as an evangelism and discipleship relationship
  • Use coaching skills and the coaching process to help people move forward in faith commitments
  • Increase effectiveness as a catalyst for discipleship and evangelism
